The GUDA DRUM 2.0 StandArt and 2.0 Plus steel tongue drums are rightfully at the top of our product line of instruments.
The GUDA DRUM 2.0 models are manufactured from 1.5-mm specially processed, high-quality stainless steel from an elite supplier, which has a significant impact on the volume and allows the instrument to hold its tuning for a much longer time. Moreover, drums made of stainless steel are protected against corrosion.
The main difference between the GUDA DRUM 2.0 and the models sold by our competitors is our unique two-petal tongue. The petal has two separate parts that are tuned to two separate notes – the primary note, and an overtone. Both parts of the petal generate sound (in unison), producing a full, clean, bright, surround-sound effect that distinguishes the GUDA DRUM 2.0 from most other tongue drums.
Actually, having two notes in a single tonal field is nothing new and is widely used in other kinds of percussion instruments known as steelpans.
The steelpan is a melodic percussion instrument that originated in Trinidad and Tobago around 1920-1930. The genesis of the steelpan is fascinating and worthy of a separate article. Suffice it to say that the steelpan is a living testament to the musical prowess of the inhabitants of these island nations, and the only new acoustic instrument originating in the 20th century. The steelpan is a half-shell made of metal, on the inner surface of which are specially molded and tuned surfaces. These surfaces are the tonal fields, each of which has two notes that are individually tuned. Pannists play steelpans by striking them with special sticks or mallets. The resulting sound is very loud and bright, and totally unique. The steelpan is truly a source of well-deserved pride for the people of Trinidad.
It can be played on its own or in a group or orchestra. In the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, there are orchestras made up of 100 or more steelpans. Back in 2000, it was the steelpan that inspired the founders of PANArt to create another incredible instrument – the Hang. And now, as a tribute to the legacy of metal drums, the GUDA DRUM 2.0 and 2.0 Plus line have transferred the novelty of the steelpan to tongue drums.
The GUDA DRUM 2.0 series features two models.
The GUDA DRUM 2.0 StandArt with an 8-note range, and the GUDA DRUM 2.0 Plus with a 9-note range. In the 9-note model, the bass note (tonic) is centered, which is a copy of the tonal circle of hang drums (handpans), designed for producing rhythm patterns.
You can tune your GUDA DRUM 2.0 using a unique tonal library of more than 3 dozen of the most popular types of scales for handpans and hangs that are specially adapted for the GUDA DRUM 2.0 and 2.0 Plus models.
In addition to its acoustic distinctions, the GUDA DRUM 2.0 is visually stunning. You can choose from 5 basic surface color textures - Gold, Dark Brown, Black Shagreen, Brown Satin and Midnight Blue. And you can select one of some forty ornaments, ethno-cultural designs, meditative symbols or drawings. The designs are hand-engraved on each drum, and this means that each instrument is unique. If you want to put your own stamp on the drum, we can create a custom design based on your sketch. All of the 2.0/Plus Drums come with a special waterproof backpack, making it easy to travel with your drum and enjoy it wherever you go.
An FX version of the GUDA DRUM 2.0 was developed for professional musicians who want to use the drum on stage or in the studio, as well as a multi-FX box package of sound effects.
GUDA DRUM 2.0/Plus FX has all of the features of a conventional acoustic instrument plus 4 special pickups so you can connect the instrument to external sound amplifiers, effect processors, or other devices to process and record sound to suit a variety of musical tastes and facilitate performances both on stage and in the studio.
The multi-FX box is an effect processor that is specially designed for GUDA DRUM tongue drums. It’s a preamplifier with a set of basic sound effects (reverb, delay, equalizer) that makes real-time sound processing easy to perform in a concert or studio setting. The FX box comes with a power supply and acoustic connection cables.
It’s no surprise that the 2.0, 2.0 Plus and FX series are the most popular among professional musicians. They meet the needs of our most discerning customers, and are designed to make the most of your talent.
